Charlie Hoskins was a self-made man.

Born poor as a church mouse, he was relentless in his pursuit of money to the point of being universally hated.

Oh, he was admired for his rags-to-riches story. He was admired for being a good businessman. But Charlie never learned tact and made many enemies in the process of realizing his goals. He didn’t care that in order to accomplish his dreams, he trampled on those of others.

So it didn’t surprise Josiah Reynolds when someone decided to kill Charlie. The only thing that bothered her was that her lawyer and friend, Shaneika Mary Todd, might have done the dirty deed!

Join Josiah as she discovers the truth in a world that hides its secrets among antebellum mansions and million dollar horses grazing in emerald pastures.

This is the world of the Bluegrass . . . a world of wealth, privilege, and now murder!

Death By Derby A Josiah Reynolds Mystery 8 edition by Abigail Keam Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I have read many Josiah Reynolds books and have enjoyed the wit and humor of the characters. This story was not complete, it as if, Keam was rushed at the end, so she ended. Book was filled mostly with rehashing everything that happened in previous books. It was meant to fill in the Asa story but did not answer the main questions. I'm sorry to say I'm sorry to have wasted my money. I have purchased all the previous books in this series, but this will be the last. My suggestion to the author is if your just going to "phone it in" it's time to end the series.

Death By Derby A Josiah Reynolds Mystery 8 edition by Abigail Keam Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

So caught up in this one I never realized we didn't know the derby winner. Ah the memories of the few years I attended the derby...awesome place to people watch. Love these spunky older ladies. Give em heck Josiah and June. Asa has quite her own mystery going on too. Can't wait for more details on her situation. Kick butt ladies, rooting for you all the way.
I love Josiah. She's smart, sassy and takes no crap from anyone. Really enjoyed getting to know more about her daughter, Asa. I highly recommend you do a search and start with the first in this series, not simply because the story line is damn good , but to enjoy each minute of the reading of this excellent mystery series. Each starts with "Death By"
I can't believe how bad this book was compared to the first few in the series. Poor story development, Too much rehashing of what we already knew. Most readers of series books read them in order. I agree with the review that says he/she felt the author got lazy and rushed. Also, I don't like what the author did with the main character in painting her as weak and stupid especially in regards to her relationship failure with her husband. Up to now it was clear that he was a manipulative lying creep of a cad, and we all know that love blinds us. I am going to read the next in the series to see if Abigail can redeem herself. Lastly, I hated the interview she has on her author page. She comes across as being a rude, spiritless snob!
A stupid book! It opens with a critical scene at the Kentucky Derby. Tensions described between two owners and their horses. Then a balloon explodes. A good premise, but then the author skips over who won the Derby (like it's not important after that set-up?). The rest of the book wanders through old story lines (if you haven't read the previous books, you're lost) with a few chapters actually about the mystery behind the balloon explosion and the guy who owned it. Boring! The author pads this book with so much about horses and racing but leaves the reader hanging about the race, the horses and the winners. After boring us with former plots, the book ends suddenly with a fast summary of what happened to the characters. Finally, there's a totally fake call of the race with the names of past Derby winners mixed in with her horse characters. And more padding with songs and stuff promoting other books. I'm sorry I wasted my time with this one.
A wonderful series. Fun and easy to read and follow. The characters really draw you into the books and you just want to keep reading and reading about them. It is best to start this series at the beginning, with Death by Honeybee. Death by Derby encompasses a little bit of the whole series and explains some of the past events. Great book to read and to take you to the Kentucky Derby. Love this series. I hope this is not the last book!!!!
Interesting? No. Lady E solves this so-called mystery in 30 seconds. Where's the mystery? The investigation? I am sorry for Goetz, but there is no chemistry between he and Josiah. None. Do I really care about Asa's love life? Absolutely not. Franklin is the best character in this book (and I loved him in earlier books.) We have to wait to the end to learn who wins the Derby...and other horses running the race include former Derby winners (Whirlaway? Really? Can't the author make up any names?). This is a long, boring short story. The author's last 2 books were lousy. I am done. It's a shame, really; the first 3-4 were really quite good.
Josiah Reynolds solves another intriguing mystery set to the backdrop of the Kentucky Derby. I love this series and this character. This books answers most of the questions unanswered in the first books and seems to be wrapping up the series. I am hoping for at least one more to bring Matt back and give him his HEA. I also hope to see Josiah and Goetz get together also. Loved Asa's back story in this book. It explained so much of what has gone before. Over all great book, but probably best read after finishing the rest of the series.
